We Make Treasures: the same crew, a much bigger workshop

We launched a new website today. It is also a new name, which is the part most people will notice first.

We Make Teasers is now We Make Treasures.

A name is a promise about scope

We Make Teasers was exactly the right name for the studio that started it. It told one market precisely what we did, it left no room for confusion, and that focus is a large part of why we got as good at it as we did. A specific name is a powerful thing.

It is also a boundary. That is not a flaw in the name, it is how names work. Whatever you put on the door is what people will walk in asking for, no matter what else is written on the walls. We have spent years telling clients this. We name products. We build the systems that decide what a brand is allowed to mean. We know exactly what a word does to a buyer's expectations, because setting those expectations deliberately is the job.

Which is why we took our own advice. The studio now does branding, product and digital work at the same level we have always done film, and the name needed to make room for that rather than quietly argue against it.

Treasures is the thing you make that people want, whatever form it takes. A box. A film. A storefront. A brand. It fits the company we are now, and it leaves room for the one we are building.

"The heart of this studio was never the teaser. It was always the treasure: the thing that makes somebody want what you made."
Bryce Walter, Co-founder

One studio instead of four vendors

The clearest version of the problem we solve sounds like this: the trailer came out great, and now I need a campaign page, and the person who built my store does not talk to the person who shot my product, and I am spending my week forwarding files between three companies who have never met.

We work across three pillars, and the point is that it is one crew.

Branding. Names, identity, packaging, decks, key art and the printed pieces your brand arrives on.

Experience Design. Sites, storefronts, apps, product interfaces, email and the tools that sit alongside them.

Rich Media. Video, 3D, animation, photography and sound.

All of it in house, on one schedule. Your store looks like your trailer, your emails look like both, and nobody has to chase anybody.

If we have only ever made you a film, there is a good chance we already make the rest of what you need. Ask us.

The craft travels further than we thought

We built our reputation making tabletop games look irresistible, and we are not going anywhere. Tabletop is home.

But somewhere along the way we noticed the problem is the same in a lot of other aisles. A board game box has to get picked up from four feet away by somebody holding a basket. So does a cereal box. A book cover has to work at thumbnail size next to forty others. So does a Steam capsule. A collector cares about the insert and the certificate for the same reason a reader cares about sprayed edges.

So we now work with video game studios, toy and collectible brands, publishers and authors, entertainment properties, and food and beverage brands. Different shelves, same craft.

We stopped showing work and started showing results

A portfolio tells you we can make something look good. It does not tell you whether it worked.

So alongside the reels we are publishing case studies with the actual numbers.

Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and Unstoppable, for Renegade Game Studios, raised $13,298,059 on BackerKit from 55,972 backers. Fifty-three times the funding goal.

Elf Creek Games has funded seven Kickstarter campaigns with us, reaching more than 25,000 backers, with a storefront running at peak conversion above 6%. Most e-commerce sits between 2 and 3%.

Bicycle Playing Cards has more than 35 videos from us, ad creative that went on to run across 21 successful marketing campaigns, and a how-to-play experience we rebuilt from the ground up.

More are on the way. If the work is going to cost you money, you should be able to see what it earned somebody else.

Getting a price should not be homework

Our old site made you figure out which package you belonged in before you could find out what anything cost. Basic, advanced, premium, custom, and a pricing page to decode the difference.

We replaced all of it with one planner. Tell us what you make, what you need and when you need it. It takes about two minutes, nothing is sent until you look it over, and it reaches the person best placed to answer rather than a general inbox.

Two ways to work with us that did not exist before

White label. If you run an agency or studio and keep turning down work you could sell but cannot staff, we work behind your name. Your clients, your logo, our team. Partner rates come in below our direct rates with the markup already visible in the quote, we bill you rather than your client, and nothing with our name on it ever reaches their inbox.

Referrals. Know someone who needs us? Send them our way. We pay 10% of the project when it ships, up to $5,000. No contract, no quota, no catch.

We are building the bench

There are now proper listings for the roles we hire into: Animator, Visual Designer and Product Photographer. We are not filling any of them this minute, and each listing says so plainly rather than wasting your afternoon.

We are always looking at portfolios. When something opens, those are the first place we go.

What did not change

The crew. The craft. The part where we actually play the games, read the books and collect the things we make work for.

And the standard we hold it all to, which is the only reason any of the rest of this matters.
