A rulebook is a manual that has to teach, and then a reference somebody flips back to mid-game with three people waiting. Those are two different jobs and most rulebooks only do one. We handle structure, information hierarchy, diagrams, examples of play, iconography, the index and the quick reference sheet, working from your text and often pushing back on the order things are explained in. Layout and editing are hard to separate here, so expect both.

Rulebook Layout & Design sits under Branding, drawing on Brand Collateral and Brand Design.

Who it’s for

Who needs Rulebook Layout & Design?

Your game teaches badly, or your last one did and you are still answering the same questions in the comments. Maybe the rules are written and formatted in a document, which is fine until somebody has to actually use it at a table. A clear rulebook is one of the quietest returns on investment in tabletop, because it turns into fewer refunds, better reviews and a much quieter inbox.
